THE EXCELLENT MINISTRY by Rev. D.O. Ogundein

“But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, in as much as He is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established on a better promises” Heb 8:6

Jesus obtained a more excellent ministry through the suffering that He experienced to make us children of the kingdom. Taking a clue of His suffering in the gospel according to Matthew chapter 26, He experienced different degrees of emotional trauma from the hand of His torturers and His disciples; and because of this, He became a mediator of a better covenant. Let us examine what gave Jesus a more excellent ministry

1. He experienced disappointment (Mat 26:38-41)

Jesus was exceedingly sorrowful and in need of people to lift him up in prayer, He confided in some of His disciples, alas, they care not about what Jesus was about to experience, they slept off. Jesus came and chided them of sleeping and told them they should watch and pray. For good 3 times, the same happening repeated itself. They were sleeping when they should be praying for Jesus. He experienced disappointment through these trusted friends.

When you are disappointed by friends, close pal and spouse, remember that Jesus was also disappointed and He understands how you are feeling now, and pray to him, He is the mediator of a better covenant.

2. He knew what it means to be betrayed. (Mat 26:49)

Jesus experienced betrayer. He who dined and wined with him even his treasurer Judas Iscariot betrayed him with a kiss. What is more traumatic than a trusted friend, a supposed loyalist to betray his master, his helper, his breadwinner? Jesus experienced all these. He is in position to take care of your emotional breakdown you experienced because of  betrayers. Just go to him in prayer and ask him to take care of your soul- damaged experienced. I’m sure He will do it.

3. He knew the danger of false witness and concocted lies.(Mat 26:60-61)

The chief priest was looking for evidences against Jesus and they could find none. Some came out and began to invent lies against Jesus to the extent that the chief priest quickly grasped these lies because of his hatred and used it against Jesus. Are you in the danger of been punished because of false witness and concocted lies? Jesus understands your situation he knows how to help you out. Just call on him now to defend your case because he had been in the same situation.

4. He experienced rejection. (Mat26:56)

Jesus experienced rejection by his disciples. Immediately he was arrested, all the disciples deserted him including Peter who had boasted previous day that he would die with Jesus. Jesus was left alone in his suffering. He confronted his problem alone; no comforter, no defender, even the crowd who benefited from his ministry by feeding them when they were hungry in the wilderness and were about to be sent away by the disciples, they received his touch, they even shouted hosanna to him when he was to enter Jerusalem, they all let him down.

Oh! You are rejected, so also was Jesus. He is in the position to comfort you because he knew what it means to be rejected (2 because of the excellent ministry God wanted to commit into His hand on your behalf so that you can approach Him(God) in time of needs. (Heb 2:18). Approach Him today and ask Him to intervene in your situation.
